Our names are Rick and Linda Langford, and we are just regular people like you, probably with some of the same hopes and dreams. We have been married for almost 30 years, are best friends and still enjoy each other's company. When we first met, I had bounced around from job to job, mostly cooking or doing sales so that others could reap the rewards of my efforts, while Linda worked caring for quadriplegics. We met in Southern California (the coastal cities of Costa Mesa, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach and Huntington Beach), where Linda raised her 9 year old son, Jason. It wasn't long before we decided to leave the cluttered city and moved to Lake Tahoe where I had lived the prior 7 years. We had a daughter, Janiene, and knew that a smaller town would be a much better place to raise a family.
I continued to work in the food industry for several years, always wanting more. 40 hour work weeks and just enough to pay the bills and put food on the table became increasingly more difficult. I tried a couple small businesses but barely broke even.
I followed my dream of writing and did have some moderate success (spending any available hours I could muster), but it did not pay well and was very hit-and-miss. We started a delivery business, and although did fairly well and only worked 4 hours a day each, we still did not have the money to travel and do the things we wanted. We worked that business for 11 years. We Borrowed Money For Another Business We borrowed $10,000 and bought an existing Janitorial Business, a business where we had to pay $800 a month on the note, and the debt lasted 5 years. Again, we did moderately well, built the business, but it was hard work, and even though we again only worked 4-5 hours a day, did not get a vacation for 12 years! In 1996 the internet was starting to take off. With a partner (and boy did that go sour!), we started a development and marketing business that soon grew into an ISP (internet service provider) where we provided dial-up service (at that time 56k modems were all the rage) and hosted web sites. The business grew from 2 old Mac computers and working out of our respective homes to a $250,000 a year business in just under 3 years. After putting over $20,000 of our own money into the business, we pretty much walked away in debt. We went back to the janitorial business (which we had sold and was run into the ground by the new owners) and salvaged what we could. We built it up once again but after another couple years, wearied of cleaning up after other people and I took on a job in customer service in the utility industry. Two years ago we bought a house in Oregon and moved there. I stayed behind for 6 months working while Linda set up our new home. We paid on 2 houses for a year and ended up losing one due to the downturn in the economy. It took me almost 4 months to find work and then again in customer service, this time for a debt-collection agency. Talk about a negative mental drag on the psyche! It took them 14 months to find out that I "wasn't the right kind of person for the job," and I was laid off. Just prior to that, seeing the writing on the proverbial wall, I searched the internet for a home-based business. What I found was scam after scam where the people claimed riches and could help us do it, too. Then we answered an internet ad, and though very skeptical, researched the opportunity and found it everything we wanted and more! That is what we are now doing part-time, loving it, and finally after all these years, have found the potential to make a substantial income working from home and able to spend time together doing what we enjoy!
